Leather Lane Market in London

Established in 1666, Leather Lane Market in London EC1N is one of the city's oldest and most beloved markets. Nestled between the jewelry hub of Hatton Garden and Chancery Lane, it transforms into a bustling, vibrant street food haven on weekdays, catering heavily to the local office crowds.

So far so good, but on repeated occasions, the street venders have accidently broken the windows of the adjacent office building when erecting the steel posts of their market stalls creating havoc and consternation to the office personnel inside.

This was the choosen approach to address the health safety concern:

  • The chosen security measure needed to match the building’s exterior, attach to existing window frames, avoid reducing natural light, and eliminate any “prison‑like” appearance caused by steel bars.
  • Clear polycarbonate CrimeScreens with white aluminium frames were installed on 14 ground‑floor windows, using a combination of double‑sided security tape and steel fixings (the tape type recommended by the Home Office Research & Technology Establishment).
  • The order was delivered within 7 working days, and the full installation was completed in a single day.

School in Weybridge

This junior school was experiencing anti-social behaviour after school hours with the windows being broken at very regular intervals, causing distress to the pupils, teachers and parents alike.

Clearing up of the broken glass meant lessons were also disturbed. Perforated steel CrimeScreens were chosen because we could match the shape and style of the windows, thereby avoiding any prison-like steel effect of steel bars & grilles, ventilation into the classrooms was ensured and most importantly the glass was 100% protected against breakage.
